Our goal ~  is to save canine lives, reduce the number of unwanted and abandoned dogs through spaying/neutering and to find loving/caring permanent homes for our dogs. As domesticated animals, they are all deserving of a wonderful family and forever home. Our dogs are re-homed and reside mostly in New England (primarily CT), but also in New York and New Jersey. The Soft Landings Road to Rescue team is there to support you through the entire adoption procedure…

We are ~  a group of volunteers who rescue from (primarily) one high kill shelter in South Carolina. We are all volunteers with daytime jobs, so we do what we can, as quickly as we are able. Please be patient when waiting for a response to an inquiry. We realize how exciting the decision to adopt a new furry family member is!  Know that we will certainly be in touch.

We do not ~  accept unsolicited applications. Our goal for every one of our dogs is a loving, permanent home. If you are interested in adopting one of our available dogs, we ask that you submit an inquiry through the Contact Us page or call/email us directly so that we have a chance to discuss your wishes and requirements and make the best possible adoption match. Our adoption fee in most cases is $475.

The rescue process ~  begins when we have room at one of our many foster homes. We notify the shelter that we wish to rescue certain dogs who we feel we are able to save and re-home. One of our volunteers in South Carolina picks up the dog, who is brought to our vet to be spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated and tested for heartworm.  At that time we also assess them for any illnesses. If they need additional medical care they are treated.

While in foster care ~  we provide quality food, toys, flea/tick prevention and worming medication. Our dogs are crate trained, learn to walk on the leash, are house trained, and socialized with both people and other animals. We then begin with the first steps of re-homing and we post our rescue dogs on various adoption sites.

Adoption requests ~  are carefully reviewed to determine who will be the best fit for each pup. We take into consideration many factors. Some examples: ability to pay for the physical needs of the dog such as quality food and medical care. We also look at previous pet ownership and the quality of care provided. We review such factors as who will be living in the home and whether they will be a good fit for a particular pup.

Dogs are transported  ~  to Connecticut on a specially-designed vehicle once an adoption has been finalized. We use only one transporter (Randall Turner at My Buddy’s Transport) as they are also involved in rescue and we trust him implicitly. Randall and his team transport on Saturdays. They take excellent care of the dogs during their long journey (watch the video). The fee is normally $150, which covers the cost of gasoline and tolls and is paid directly to Randall. Click on “Book Transport” above for further information. The CT Soft Landings Volunteer Team meets all of the pups and their adoptive families on the scheduled arrival date of transport.

Please note: Soft Landings Road to Rescue is licensed by the CT Department of Agriculture (#AIR 000259) and as such we fully abide by all the rules and regulations for organizations facilitating animal adoptions.
